THE LUXE OBSESSIONS

SCULPTING ARTISTS

i love shoes, and this i learned not so long ago. these babies are worth tap dancing down the street in your sleekest chic. so which cloud or clouds does such avant garde ingenious form drop from? let’s do a quick rewind classroom recap (this would be my 2nd time sitting in): United Nude is the product of two gents, the first, Rem D Koolhaas who started this because he had a broken heart. like cinderella he made a special shoe for this girl, the ‘Möbius’ shoe. then he got together with the Clark’s shoe mogul, Galahad Clark. and the rest is beauty.

United Nude also does collaborations – the one peaking my interest at this very moment is that with Dutch fashion designer Iris van Herpen – another genius. i have always been visually attracted to design and fashion that incorporate architectural and angular shapes and it is beautifully plastered all over van Herpen’s work. these divinely gorgeous shoes were first seen at the a/w 2010 London Fashion Week. these shoes should be kept in special cases, because they are a pretty penny, $1295. (but really, if you had it, wouldn’t you spend it and invest?) they are handmade leather, gold detailing and flunk shunk boasting. they’re limited – so probably just about gone by now – as they were born 168 black pairs and 72 ivory pairs. but that’s alright, because i can dream. so not just looking at shoes – but viewing the collection, you can see that Iris has a delicate and gifted hand. they’re not just clothes, but sculptural pieces of art.
